We just wanted to take a moment to check in, share our company mission, and provide some tips on how to prepare your dog (or cat) for a healthy transition in routine once things get back to “normal.”

Our Core Family Values

Preparing Your Pet for Going Back to Work

Things are starting to get back to ‘normal’ for us humans, meaning many of us will soon be heading back to work and spending more time away from our homes and pets. While this may be a relief to some of us, many dogs have become accustomed to our presence at home these last few months – the extra walks, the extra treats, and the extra attention.

So, what happens when everything opens back up and suddenly you’re not home as much anymore? It’s up to us to help them transition back to ‘normal’ life. Below are six tips for helping your dog readjust to life after COVID-19.

Tip #1. Slowly Adjust Back to Your Own Schedule
Start mimicking the schedule you’ll have when you go back to work. Start by implementing your morning routine, then your evening routine. Make sure you give your dog extra love and attention during this time, too.

Your Own Schedule

Tip #2. Build up Time Away from Your Dog
Start gradually spending more time away from your dog. Go for a quick walk alone when you’d normally leave for work, or hang out in another room away from your dog. When you leave, give them a food puzzle or toy to keep them occupied.

Tip #3. Create a Safe Space
Try creating a safe space for your pup to hang out when you’re not home. A bed, crate, or a room work great. Include things your dog enjoys and will keep them preoccupied in your absence: chew toys, food puzzles and toys (like a Kong filled with doggy-safe peanut butter), comfy beds or blankets, even a calming radio station can help to put them at ease while they re-transition back to you being gone for most of the day.

Help Them Relax

Tip #4. Help Them Relax
There are tons of calming products for dogs – anything from treats, to aromatherapy sprays and oils, pheromone diffusers, weighted shirts, and so much more. You may have to experiment to find what works best for you and your dog.

Tip #5. Consider a Dog Walker
If your dog got used to midday walks, you may want to find a midday dog walker to help Fido alleviate some of that stress and anxiety. At FurEver Family, we guarantee a 30 minute visit specifically catered to your dogs needs: potty breaks, walks, playtime, whatever YOUR dog needs. Additionally, at the end of every walk, you get a detailed update about what your dog did, including cute pictures!

Doggy Daycare

Tip #6. Consider a Doggy Daycare
If your dog is social with other dogs, consider finding a doggy daycare. FurEver Family offers a pet taxi service that can take your dog to and from daycare. Safety is our number one priority; all Sitters have special seat belts to keep your dog safe during transport. Our pet taxi service also includes an update with pictures, letting you know your dog safely arrived at their destination.
